MY-TER SAW. Measure once, cut twice.
Designed for kids aged 5-7, letting them cut and build just like mom or dad. With snap-fit pieces, planks can be cut with the saw and reassembled over and over again. Flexing dowel pins allow for joinery in a variety of ways, so that you can build and let your imagination run free.
Designed in collaboration with Alex Shevstova and Nicco Timpano.
Construction Toys & Activity Toys
Construction toys have parts that are assembled together to create an object or end result. They are characterized by their ability to be disassembled and reassembled. Depth of play can be expanded through design by increasing the variety and number of possible end results.
Activity toys also often involve assembling parts to create something. Unlike construction toys, this process cannot be infinitely repeated, as activity toys have consumables that get used up during play. Activity toys often include a proprietary tool that helps a child to create the end results.
About 5-7 year olds
5-to-7-year-olds learn through mimicking adult behaviour. They enjoy imaginative play and playing with friends, which they do more of now that they are in school. Their sense of humour is developing, and many enjoy being the center of attention, including by grossing out their friends. A 5-to-7-year-old’s motor skills are developing for more precise motions, such as careful cutting, pouring, and drawing. They are me-focused, interested in independence and being able to do things for themselves. They typically have an attention span of 12 to 30 minutes.

Play Pattern
Appealing to a 5-to-7-year-old’s desire to be independent and to do grown-up things on their own, MY-TER SAW mimics the experience of cutting wood with a power tool. With a range of ways to assemble cut pieces together, kids can use their imagination to create doll-sized furniture. Once kids are done building, the pieces can be snapped back together and cut with the saw again.
Mechanism
Made of polypropylene to be durable, flexible, affordable, and easily recycled come end-of-life, the MY-TER SAW pieces snap together and cannot be pulled apart. By pressing down on the snap fit with the saw blade, the pieces are easily separated, creating the experience of actually cutting a plank. Flexible dowels are used to join pieces together in a variety of ways.
